We are the Northern Beaches Football Club

and this is your story ...

The Woolgoolga Blues first became a club in 1982, along with five other teams, to make up the North Coast Australian Football League competition. The clubs home ground was Centennial Oval in the heart of Woolgoolga. In that year, The Woolgoolga Blues won the first of their many premierships when they beat Port Macquarie in the inaugural season. The Blues went through the 1983 season unbeaten to be premiers again.

The story of our Seniors

From 1982 to 1994, Woolgoolga was the dominant force of the competition—the team to beat. They were early trendsetters, appearing in the league’s first thirteen consecutive grand finals and claiming seven premierships during that era. Two of those victories, in 1987 and 1988, were secured at the iconic Centennial Oval. The club’s success extended through the grades, with the Under 17s also crowned premiers in 1991.

The momentum continued into the late 1990s. Woolgoolga secured its eighth and ninth premierships in 1996 and 1998, and when the Reserves competition was reintroduced in 1999, the Blues wasted no time—taking out the premiership in its first season back.

In 2006, the Seniors withdrew from the competition, marking the end of an era. But their absence was temporary. In 2019, the club proudly returned to the field under a new banner—the Northern Beaches Blues—fielding a Women’s team and a Reserves grade team. The resurgence was immediate: the Reserves won the premiership in that same comeback year.

The club reached another proud milestone in 2022, securing its first-ever Women’s premiership with a hard-fought victory over the Breakers. That same season, many of our Junior teams finished within the top four, reflecting the strength of the club’s development pathway.

Today, the Northern Beaches Blues call the impressive Wiigulga Sporting Complex on Solitary Islands Way home. We compete in the North Coast AFL competition, with teams spanning Under 18s, Women’s, and Men’s divisions and facing opponents from Grafton to Port Macquarie.

With a proud history behind us and a vibrant future ahead, the Northern Beaches Blues continue to build a strong football community for the entire Northern Beaches region.

The story of our Juniors

When the Senior Club entered recess, the Junior Club took an important step forward—renaming itself the Northern Beaches Blues Junior Football Club in 2006. Despite the disruption at senior level, the Juniors continued strongly, beginning with Auskick and teams across three underage groups.

Throughout this period, the Junior Club steadily built momentum and participation. Player numbers grew year after year, and teams regularly reached finals and grand finals across multiple divisions, including:

  • Auskick
  • U10 Mixed
  • U12 Mixed
  • U14 Mixed
  • U16 Boys
  • U14 Girls to YG 13 Girls
  • U17 Girls to YG 15 Girls
  • YG 17 Girls

This success was no accident—it was the direct result of dedicated committee members, coaches, families, and volunteers working together to create an environment centred on support, inclusiveness, development, and fun. The Junior Club became a place where young players could learn the game, build confidence, and grow a love for AFL.

In 2025, the club reached another proud milestone when the Under 13 Youth Girls won the premiership, with both the Under 12s and Under 17 Youth Girls finishing as finalists—further proof of the strong foundation built during the senior club’s hiatus.

Today, the Northern Beaches Blues—both Juniors and Seniors—are proudly based at the state of the art Wiigulga Sporting Complex on Solitary Islands Way. With growing membership, expanding programs, and strong community involvement, there is a lot happening in the club right now.

It’s a great time to get involved.
